Get2it Dance Festival
Performance opportunity for children
Get2It Dance Festival
A new dance festival for children has been launched in South Charnwood through the School Sports Partnership, which is based at Longslade Community College. Get2It will give children between the ages of 7 – 11 the opportunity to learn and create their own dance which will be performed in front of a live audience with full technical support. The performance will take place at Wreake Valley Community College on Monday 8th February at 6.30pm.
Get2It has been registered with U.Dance, a new national programme which aims to provide every child and young person with the opportunity to take part in a dance performance each year. This year’s festival will feature performances from Gaddesby, Rearsby and Thrussington Primary Schools, as well as Wreake Valley Community College, and will include dances based on dreams, wind and machinery.
“Interest in dance classes and performance has rapidly increased over the past few years, particularly from the popularity of groups like Diversity. The impact of participating in dance activity is huge, not least on children’s physical fitness, creativity, confidence and overall wellbeing” says Louise Jaggard, the organiser of Get2It.
Children all over Leicestershire have been enjoying Louise’s dance sessions this year, from classes and after-school clubs in Primary Schools, to the Get2It Dance Festival at Wreake Valley Community College. She is a freelance dance artist who has been teaching within Leicestershire and the East Midlands since 2003.
