Meet The Team

sallySally Wicken

I trained at Borough Road West London Institute for Teaching (now known as Brunel University). I completed my four year teaching degree in Physical Education and English and graduated in 2001. My first teaching job was at Woodcote Sports College in Croydon. Having moved to Leicestershire I started working at Longslade Community College in 2002 and have never looked back. In my new role as Assistant Principal I have the privilege to work with a variety of staff and students as well as continue to lead the SCSSP into its' next phase.

In my spare time I go to the gym when I am not too busy (so not that often), play badminton and go running with friends. I love all sports and physical activity and have now started ballroom dancing lessons with my husband.

I qualified as a PE Teacher from Bedford College of HE in 198....., and took up a post at Wreake Valley CC the same year. I have occupied a number of roles within the PE Department, including Head of Department, and am now Head of Girl's PE and an SSCo. I have a very strong background in hockey, having played Internationally for a number of years, as well as being a memeber of Leicester Hockey Club for over 30 years! I no longer run around on the pitch, but am currently the First team Manager - it's much easier from the sideline, but extremely frustrating! I'm also into golf, having taken it up when I retired from International hockey, and if I say so myself - I'm not too bad! Unfortunately, I'm not quite good enough to make a living out of it, so I'll have to continue doing this job for a few more years!

I graduated from Loughborough University in 2010 with a PGCE in PE. After spending some time travelling around Europe and Australia, I came home to Leicestershire to pursue a career in teaching, combined with the position of School Sports Co-ordinator.

Outside of work, sport continues to be a huge part of my life. I have played football for Leicester City Ladies for over 10 years and have recently signed for Loughborough Foxes, I enjoy swimming and going to the gym and snowboarding when I get the chance!

Married to Chela, we have a baby boy called Finlay and a new baby on the way.

Passions; Family, Job and Middlesbrough FC. I have finally settled in Leicester (not sure why?) and have been here for five years now, but I am not letting the southernism rub off on me too severely! My education has been spread around the country, including Middlesbrough, Chester, Liverpool and Bedford, all of which has been focused upon Physical Education and Sports Science. My current job of teaching and being a school sports coordinator is great and fulfils my early ambitions to be in such a role. Looking forward to working with you all soon and moving school sport upwards and onwards together.

Sport has been a huge part of my life growing up and when the opportunity to be a part of the SCSSP presented itself, I grasped it with both hands. To be working alongside a dedicated, passionate, like-minded group is something I'm really excited about. I look forward to working with you all. Let's give young people the opportunities to compete they deserve.

 Rikesh Karia

I qualified as a teacher at Loughborough University in 2008 and went travelling around the world for 1 year. I worked in Perth at a school for 9 months which was a fantastic experience. I have now been given the opportunity to work with this fabulous team and look forward to it.

Outside of work, sport continues to be a huge part of my life. I have played football for Leicester City although I am a Manchester United fan (glory hunter). I enjoy cricket, badminton and also have a passion for cooking in my spare time.

Stephanie Brew

All my life I have been passionate about sport. Because of this, In 2005 I moved to Leicestershire to study English and Sports Science at Loughborough University, where as well as completing my degree I was privileged to take part in a number of projects working for Youth Sports Trust. These experiences confirmed for me that working with young people and sport was a career that I would really enjoy, so upon completion of my PGCE in 2009 I began teaching at The Martin High School. I have loved my two and a half years working at the school and I’m really excited about being involved in the SCSSP to help more young people get positive experiences out of sport.

My spare time is devoted to helping organise Loughborough Leys Badminton Club where I am currently the Club Secretary as well as competing in three teams.
